Highlight of my readings:
- DisCrit recognizes the shifting boundary between normal and ab-normal
- DisCrit explores ways in which both race and ability are socially constructed and interdependent

- How can we expand our knowledge or understanding of race and dis/ability?
- K-12 schools often separate hallways or even buildings removed from the rest of students. Also curriculum and instruction in schools are often detached from special education
- Race and dis/ability have been used to marginalize particular group and society
- Solutions; engaging in dialogue to potentially transform inequities in our education system to avoid fall through the cracks
- No child left behind act,privatizations of public education,teachers tied to student test scores
- Draw attention to those communities marginalized by dominant communities
- Mentoring approach to impact a healthy support- outcomes of children and families
- Building relationships between mentors and youth is vital piece of the puzzle
- The three mentoring interaction elements;focus, purpose, and authorship to distinguish between effective and ineffective mentoring relationship styles.
